DMI's contribution to PROMISE-project
1. WP1100: Seasonal predictability
of monsoon climate
Scheduled for year 3.
2. WP2000: Assessment of
future monsoon climates in γγγγγγγγγγ response to anthropogenic climate
change
Scheduled for year 1 (half
a year) and year 2.
DMI has started to investigate
the climatic changes in the region affected by
the Asian/Indian summer monsoon. The focus has primarily
been on the aspects of the hydrological cycle, i.e.,
precipitation, evaporation, source-term of atmospheric
moisture (E-P), atmospheric moisture transports etc.
Moreover, we have obtained data estimating the runoff of
the Indus and the Ganges/Brahma- putra, which has been estimated
within another EC-project (ERACC). Another focus
has been on the occurrence of tropical cyclones over
the northern Indian Ocean during the monsoon season.
In order to continue the
work on the dynamical aspects of the Asian/Indian summer
monsoon and the impact of the SSTs in the Indian and
Pacific Ocean as well as of the Eurasian snow cover on
the phenomenology of the summer monsoon, we have started
to study the respective literature, a.o., the published results
from the SHIVA-project. γ
